Neutral soils have a pH of 7, while values below 7 are acidic and above are alkaline. Soil pH significantly affects nutrient availability, microbial activity, and plant growth. For instance, nutrients like phosphorus are most available in a pH range of 6 to 7. Lime or sulfur applications can adjust soil pH to optimize conditions for crops.
